Stories from the Book of Mormon are coming to life in a new live-action video series being produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Filming is underway in Utah on the project and is expected to take up to six years to complete.

Latter-day Saint actors, six directors, 75 professional crew members and technical experts began filming the project in June near the Church’s Jerusalem movie set in the central Utah community of Goshen. This year’s filming is 35 days. A major portion will be complete by the end of July.

Church leaders hope a Book of Mormon visual library will bring people closer to God and Jesus Christ and inspire people to live better lives.

Jackson Vanderwerken makes his film debut as Lehi’s son Nephi, a prominent figure in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon videos feature a diverse cast of men, women and children. Producers have worked to make the sets realistic by gathering authentic props and set pieces from around the world. Rick Macy, who plays Lehi, an ancient prophet who leads his family out of Jerusalem said, “I’ve learned so much more about Lehi.”

“[The videos] will provide … [the audience with] an opportunity to learn more of Christ and feel God’s love as they relate to the characters, see themselves in the stories, and feel the power of the doctrine and teachings of this inspired book,” explained Sister Reyna I. Aburto, second counselor in the Relief Society general presidency and a member of the project’s steering committee.

Face/Off (1997) – Church Funeral & Shootout Filming Location

Face/Off is a cult thriller/action movie of the late nineties. It featured Nicolas Cage against John Travolta in an outlandish and fantastic plot. With some great lines, deep emotional moments and futuristic sci-fi and action sequences, this movie was anything but forgettable. John Woo was brought on to direct and provide a unique east meets west vision in film making.

This week, we take you to the location where the intense and controversial church shootout occurred. Castor (Cage) and Archer (Travolta) go head to head in unstoppable mayhem after the funeral of Victor Lazarro on the beach. In real life this location is not a church at all. It is still, however, just as impressive with many palm trees and sand to provide a elegant yet somber mood.

This location is near the Port of Los Angeles, and still looks very much like it did twenty years ago when the film was shot.

Be sure to watch AdamTheWoo’s version of the filming locations featuring yours truly, me!…

UPDATE: property is now private due to constant vandalism of the property. Here’s my last video on this topic. In this video I include multiple locations spread out through the camp including the abandoned cabin, the lake and the bathrooms. Camp is amazing, has great scenery but extremely difficult to get to. Lots of hilly and bumpy terrain that mazes on an on for nearly a mile.

Cop Puts Cameraman In Chokehold for Filming Peaceful Protest

After a week of bloody shootings in the city of Newark, family members of the victims killed by gun violence marched in front of churches Sunday to ask the clergy for help.

What started as a peaceful demonstration by parents whose children were murdered on the streets of Newark turned violent.

“Put your hands behind your back,” the officer said. “He’s going with me. Put your hands behind your back.”

When CBS 2 HD’s reporter on the scene, Christine Sloan, protested and said he couldn’t arrest the cameraman, the officer said, “I can do whatever I want.”

The camera kept rolling, as the officer put CBS 2 photographer Jim Quodomine in the choke hold and placed him under arrest.

Witnesses took pictures of the incident and told CBS 2 HD what they saw.

The march ended, however, when a Newark police officer put a CBS 2 photographer in a choke hold, handcuffed him, and put him in the back of a police car.
